How to Make Your Own Spinner Baits

If you are a fan of bass fishing, you know that spinnerbaits are some of the most popular lures an angler can have in his arsenal. You can slow roll a spinnerbait along the bottom, skirt it near the surface, or bounce it over cover. You can use spinnerbaits in virtually any fishing condition; you need to constantly work them so you do not get bored. Purchasing spinnerbaits can really hurt your wallet over time. At around $5 for each lure, you can end up spending a lot if you want to get enough lures for every occasion. If you want to save some money, you should strongly consider making your own spinnerbaits. It is not that hard, and you can customize your baits any what you want. Read on and learn how to make your own spinnerbait.

  1. First: Creating your spinnerbait mold

Your first step is to create the mold of your spinnerbait. This serves as the body of your lure, and is probably the most difficult step in the process. Melt some lead and attach a spinnerbait hook to the end of your spinerbait wire. Slowly and carefully, pour the liquid lead into the spinnerbait mold, taking extra precaution not to spill any over the sides. Once you have poured the head of your spinnerbait in to the mold, let it cool for a few minutes before you start handling it.

  2. Second: Add your spinnerbait components.

Once your spinnerbait body has cooled off, you are ready to add the various components. Add a bead to the top of the wire so that it can run from the head to the blade. Depending on your preference, you can add one or two blades to the end of your wire form.

  3. Third: Add your skirt

It is time to add a colorful skirt to your spinnerbait. Adding a bait is simple, as most skirts come premolded, so you simply just slide it around the hook and up to the head. You have successfully completed your spinnerbait!
